Francesca Woodman photographed the female body as something half-present — blurred by movement, dissolving into walls and floors. This gown captures that same quality of a figure emerging from or merging with its surroundings.
A mermaid silhouette with an illusion high neckline and long fitted sleeves. The entire bodice and arms are constructed from sheer mesh with large-scale botanical appliques — oversized leaves and petals in satin or organza — placed asymmetrically across the torso, shoulders, and down the arms. Each applique is individually shaped and stitched, creating sculptural dimension against the transparent base. The effect is of foliage growing across the body. Below the hips, the skirt flares into a tulle mermaid train.
The back continues the illusion construction, with a row of small covered buttons running from neckline to waist. The botanical appliques are placed to create strategic coverage while maintaining the through-the-skin transparency that defines the design.
