This is a ball gown for those who find most ball gowns predictable.

The silhouette is full and traditional: a princess ball gown with a wide skirt, a cathedral train, and a bodice that meets the waist cleanly. But here is where Germaine departs from tradition — the top of the gown, from mid-torso to the shoulders, is constructed entirely in dense, heavily embroidered lace. Long sleeves in the same lace extend to the wrist. The lace is not applied to a base fabric in the conventional sense: it is the structure itself, sheer enough that the skin reads through it from the neckline to the waist, where the skirt begins.

The skirt is ivory organza — plain, smooth, and voluminous. It is exactly the right foil for the lace: where the bodice is intricate and layered, the skirt is expansive and bare. The cathedral train spreads wide behind. The back shows the lace bodice continuing uninterrupted, the deep V framing the spine.
