Cindy Sherman turned the camera on herself to question every assumption about identity, surface, and what a woman is supposed to look like. This gown asks similar questions about bridal convention — where does the body end and the dress begin?
A column-to-mermaid silhouette built on an illusion base with long fitted sleeves. The entire construction reads as a second skin: fine lace in a leaf-and-vine pattern covers the torso and arms over a sheer mesh, with the embroidery creating the only coverage. Feather accents emerge at the shoulders, along the upper back, and at the cuffs, adding raw texture against the precision of the lacework. The neckline sits off-the-shoulder with an illusion yoke that extends to a high collar effect at the back.
Viewed from behind, the gown reveals its architecture fully — the sheer back shows the intricate lace pattern floating over skin, with a row of covered buttons descending the spine. The skirt extends into a chapel train edged with more feather detailing.
